What is Chili oil?
Chili oil or chilli oil (depending whether you are using US English or UK English), is one of the condiments we use quite a lot at home.Plain porridge (rice congee) will definitely taste better with some chili oil on top!
Dip dim sum in chili oil or have it as a side dish for noodles.
Everything taste better with some chili oil in it!
How to make chili oil?
There are many chili oil recipes on the net, but this chili oil (adapted from Woks of Life) is one of the easiest and tastiest to make.The taste suit our palate.
Follow these few simple steps, and you are going to be hooked on chili oil :P.
Step 1 : Heat oil in a saucepan
Steps 2 : add aromatics; cinnamon stick, star anise and sichuan peppercorn.
Step 3 : Let the aromatics simmer in oil until fragrant.
Step 4: Pour chili flakes in a heat proof bowl
Step 5 : Strain
Step 6 : discard the aromatics
Chili oil ready to use.
How to keep chili oil?
Keep chili oil in an airtight container, in the larder.This chili oil is good to keep for at least 3 month before the oil goes rancid.
But I can assure you that you will be making another batch of chili oil before 3 months :)
