Easy Banoffee Pie

Quick and easy Banoffee pie; an English dessert with lots of silky caramelized dulce de leche top with slice bananas, whipped cream and chocolate shavings.
I always thought that Banoffee pie was originally from the US.
Little did I know that Banoffee pie was originally from east Essex in the UK.
Created by 2 bakers in 1971.
An easy no bake pie, which made of crushed digestive biscuits, melted butter to make its base.
Then spread dulce de leche generously over the refrigerated pie crust.
Top with slice bananas (mashed bananas are used instead of sliced).
And finally top this banoffee pie with whipped cream and some chocolate shavings.
However, I will take you through the steps with these easy to understand photos on "how to make this no bake Banoffee Pie".
a) Homemade Dulce de leche
b) Fresh bananas
c) Thickened cream or whipping cream
d) butter
e) Digestive biscuits
Easy steps to make Banoffee Pie
a) Process digestive biscuits in food processor to fine crumbs
b) Add melted butter
c) Mix melted butter and digestive biscuits crumbs
d) use an 8inch (20cm) tart loose base pan
e) Line the base with the digestive biscuits - butter mixture.
Then refrigerate to firm up the base.
Add 1 tablespoon of icing sugar to the thickened cream.
3. Making Banoffee Pie
a) Refrigerated pie base
b) Spread generously dulce de leche all over the pie base.
c) Slice banana and arrange on top of dulce de leche layer.
You can have 2 layers of bananas!
d) Spread whipped cream and shave some dark chocolate on top.
Refrigerate.
Banoffee pie is best serve cold.
Secondly, we are using whipped cream as banoffee pie topper, hence it is best to consume within 3 days.
Third reason is the banana!
Banana will oxidise and will not look appetising hence why we must consume banoffee pie as soon as possible.
