An easy way to make Dulce de leche, with only 1 ingredient!!
Dulce de leche is sweet, thick and delicious and can be used in many desserts!
What is Dulce de Leche?
Dulce de leche is 'caramelised' sweetened milk.A confection from Latin America, by cooking down milk and sugar, for long hours until it reaches rich golden in colour.
Dulce de leche is also known as milk jam in English.
What is the difference between dulce de leche and caramel?
The main ingredients for dulce de leche is milk and sugar.Both ingredients combined and cook over slow heat for few hours to reach that golden creamy caramel colour.
The main ingredients for caramel is sugar and water.
Caramel is cooked by heating up sugar with little water and watch it change colour to clear gold liquid.
How to make dulce de leche?
There are two method that I know off, of how to cook dulce de leche.First, the traditional way of making dulce de leche, that is using 2 ingredients combined and cook for a long period of time.
Second, the cheat way of by cooking store bought sweet condensed milk.
My way of making dulce de leche.
Dulce de Leche recipe using stove top method!
Easy steps to make Dulce de Leche on stove top!
Simple printable recipe is in the recipe card below.However, let me go through steps by steps to make dulce de leche.
1. Wash a can of condensed milk
2. Remove label
3. Fill up a stock pot with water until the can is totally submerge
4. Bring water to boil, then lower the heat to a simmer.
5. Let the can of condensed milk simmer for about 3 hours.
6. Remove the can from the pot and let the can totally cool down before opening!
The can of dulce de leche might explode due to the built up pressure whilst cooking.
How to keep dulce de leche?
Once open I recommend to transfer the dulce de leche to an air tight container and refrigerate.How long can I keep Dulce de Leche in the refrigerator?
Once the can is open and expose to the air, make sure to keep dulce de leche in the refrigerator.It is good to keep for 3 weeks.
An unopen can of dulce de leche can keep for 3 months.
