Cumin and chilli Kale Chips

.... Kale chips is so 'yesterday'...

I know! I know!
... actually I don't keep up with trends... the happening or 'in thing' in food blogsphere.
I would feel exasperated if I do (keep up with the trends).

We love kale chips, but a bunch of fresh kale to make chips, is definitely not enough for 4 of us! and the price for a bunch... hmmm, lets not bring it up, its too painful!

Kale Chips

However....

One Sunday morning, we decided to drive approximately 50km southbound, to one of the weekend Farmer's market. I have heard about the market through friends.
Ever since calling Perth home 10 years ago... that Sunday was the first time, we set foot into Canning Vale market "feeling embarrassed".

I was blown away with prices of the fresh produce... definitely not the kind of prices I had been paying at my local market!!!
my prized purchase had to be KALE!! I bagged 3 kale bunches for $1....

We ate Kale chips till our heart content....
Kale chips with harissa, kale chips with dukka... and of course Kale chips with cumin and chilli :D
...and kale for green smoothie too ;P

Kale makes a nice healthy crisp finger food.

Kale Chips

200g kale
2 teaspoon cumin - ground
1 teaspoon chilli flakes
1/4 cup olive oil
salt
  1. Pre heat oven to 150C.
  2. Separate leaves from the stalk (or spine - the hard part of the leaf).
  3. Washed and spin dry.
  4. Line baking tray with greaseproof baking paper.
  5. Place kale in single layer on to the baking tray.
  6. Add oil into the tray and mix to coat the leaves. sprinkle  cumin, chilli and salt.
  7. Give it a quick mix.
  8. Bake for 20 minutes.
Note keep an eye on kale in the oven... over baked kale chips will leave a 'burnt' / bitter aftertaste
