June 02, 2020
Delicious, smokey Yakitori chicken wings.
What is Yakitori?
Yakitori is a Japanese dish of chicken pieces, marinated in a mixture of light soy sauce, sugar, and mirin (I used sushi seasoning as I ran out). How to make Yakitori sauce?
I uploaded prep photos for easy understanding.
For full ingredients, measurements, methods and my notes are in the recipe card below.
1. Light Soy sauce
2. Sugar
3. Sushi seasoning (optional vinegar)
4. Spring onions
How to Marinade yakitori chicken?
Boneless chicken pieces were usually used to make chicken yakitori.
However, I used chicken wings instead, and not chicken pieces, because this was an impromptu cook-out!
We had charcoal fire going in our barbecue pit and not to wanting to waste, I quickly marinade chicken wings.
I do not have time to cut and marinade chicken pieces!
Nevertheless, the result was still delicious.
Cook yakitori sauce above until slightly thicken, put aside to completely cool.
Pour the marinade over and marinate for at least an hour or overnight in the fridge.
How to Cook Yakitori Chicken?
To have the optimum taste, it is best to cook these yakitori chicken pieces over charcoal open fire.
The best way to bring out the smokey taste!
What goes well with Yakitori?
Yakitori is a popular street food in Japan hence meant to be finger food, snack, food on the go kind of thing!
I love to have my steam rice with my Yakitori Chicken wings, perhaps with a bowl of miso soup to wash down after.
Tell me how do you like your yakitori chicken to be serve with?
