Coconut Chutney

Despite my failed dhosa/ tosei..
I am happy with coconut chutney... my Cheat coconut chutney ;P.  
It was received by all especially my son.

In my last post, my attempt to make tosei/ dhosa failed miserably, if not for potato masala (click on the small photo on the right to take you to the post ;P ) and coconut chutney, most likely we would ended up eating instant noodles or sandwiches ;P

Just in case you are wondering why cheat... :D
There were few items that I didn't have either in my pantry or fridge... like green chilli, red chilli, asafoetida and... I used up all my urud dhall :(
but be assured.... lack of  few ingredients doesn't mean that taste was compromise...

I swear ... :)

Cheat Coconut Chutney with tosei

Cheat Coconut Chutney


1 cup desiccated coconut
1/2 inch ginger
3/4 teaspoon mustard seeds
3/4 teaspoon cumin seeds
2 sprigs curry leaves
3 dried chillies cut into 1/2 inch
2 tablespoon canola oil
1/4 cup water
  1. Heat oil in shallow pan.
  2. Add mustard seeds, stir until they started to crackle and pop.
  3. Add cumin seeds.
  4. Fry until fragrant not burnt.
  5. Add dried chillies, curry leaves and pounded ginger.
  6. Stir for few minutes add coconut and water.
  7. Cook and stir occasionally for 5 minutes or until desiccated coconut becomes hydrated.
  8. Season with salt.
