Soft Shelled Crabs Salad
May 01, 2014
Delicious soft-shelled crab salad for summer.
This soft-shelled crab salad has been calling out to me since June 2013. I just could not believe it, that I took this long to replicate what I ate when I was in Kuala Lumpur
I wanted to take my family to dine there, but unfortunately ... we were too stuffed and suffered severe food coma from non-stop eating, from the word get-go.
And my husband, being a miser that he is, is not very keen
I was inspired by this soft-shelled crab salad from an eatery in Malaysia.
Plan B is the restaurant's name, and it is located in Mid Valley, Mega Mall Shopping Centre, Kuala Lumpur.
I was there catching up with my good friend, Melinda.... a pleasant place, but what I remembered most was the decor behind the counter... lots and loads of old-looking window panes, secretly wishing that I could haul a few back to Oz!!! My backyard garden wall could do with a few of those panes :P
My eyes were diverted from panes to the menu, and 2 words caught my attention: harissa, soft-shelled crab
need not scroll further down the menu.. choice was made almost immediately without any hesitation.
Needless to say, the soft-shelled crab I had, were deep-fried... and deep frying anything in my kitchen will be a nightmare for me!!! The amount of oil will splatter all over the kitchen bench top, cabinet, and floor.... 'Sigh'
... so my soft-shelled crabs went into the oven and baked for 3-5 minutes over the time given on the instruction box, giving the soft-shelled crab a crunchier texture.
.... am I happy with my Soft Shelled Crab salad with Harissa-Mayo dip?
oh yes :D...

DeleteI'm not entirely sure I like soft shell crabs. We recently tried these in our cooking club and we probably prepared them wrong as they were horrible. Lol.. Far too mushy... Yuck.. Yours look pretty good!
ReplyDeleteHarissa mayo sounds yum! Are the soft shell crabs come already crumbed? I've never tried deep frying them before. Eating SSC is such a treat :p
ReplyDeleteBaking is so much easier than deep frying and less to clean up too! Harissa mayo sounds like a nice combination of flavours!
ReplyDeleteLove the combination of greens and crabs in crust!
