Ramadan Kareem and Mom's 75th Birthday

July 11, 2013
Wishing everyone who celebrates the holy month of Ramadan...

Ramadan Kareem

Hello Everyone....
Sorry for the long 'silence'... I was busy with my day to day life, family visiting and my impromptu, unplanned trip to Malaysia.

My heart was not at eased ever since I received news from my sister-in-law that my mom was not feeling too great of late. She had a bad fall and couldn't walk for days... and that was in early June.

To cut long 'winded' story short... I decided to surprise her on her 75th birthday, 1st of July.

We hatched a plan for a family re-union and her birthday bash in Kuala Lumpur. Everyone was hush hush, keeping it quiet, trying our best not to let her know ... about me coming home, her Birthday and Family get together.

When I arrived at my brother's place, I found mom, standing by the kitchen sink, peeling tapioca, her favourite. She turned around slowly as she heard my voice, a mix feeling of shocked and happy written all over her face. We hugged and tears of joy trickling down....has been 3 years since my last trip.

Family re-union started on Friday with stall-bought satays, 2 legs of lamb, my eldest niece baked her grandmother a red velvet cheesecake, my sister's baked dessert and my niece no 2 brought bubble teas for all to enjoy
Day 2 ~ Saturday : Its was Pie day... me with Aussie pies and my brother baked his French Apple Tart
Day 3 ~ Sunday : the last day of celebration, at the Blue Wave hotel, Shah Alam. We wrapped up the day with a long drive to Kuala Selangor to have cendul ~ Malaysian cold dessert (the bottom right hand corner in the photo above)

It was quite late in the evening as we made our way home from Kuala Selangor. The sun was about to set and disappeared into the horizon.
The mesmerizing "Golden Hour", sky displayed the most gorgeous glow of sunset, ... kind of 'summed up' how I feel by the end of the day...

I feel happy and
Blessed
to be given a chance to be with my mom on her birthday. I thank GOD for that opportunity...Alhamdulillah
